Over the past few years people who chase storms have been employing remote drones with long-distance capabilities more and more. The technology is improving and drones have become more readily available. The higher end drones can offer stunning footage of smaller tornadoes in close proximity. The larger tornadoes could still grab a drone, and tear it down.

This video shows a tornado that is relatively weak picking massive amounts of branches as well as dirt. This gives it the appearance of a brownish red. For better views drones hover near the area of the tornado. You can see as the storm moves towards a wind farm full of giant wind turbines. Although it is tempting to speculate on what might take place if the turbines became operational with a storm directly on top, it seems that they’ve activated an emergency shut off in order to stop the wind turbines from spinning up to extreme speeds. The blades could be damaged, and removed from service. Thankfully, the tornado seems to not have caused much harm.
